Kharge was speaking to his party general secretaries and in-charges at the Congress headquarters at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi when he made the comments against the ruling party and PM Modi.

These comments come days after PM Modi had a meeting with US President Donald Trump during his US visit. The issues of tariff and immigration which the opposition parties have been protesting against, were not raised with Trump during their meeting.

Kharge Slams PM Modi

Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, Mallikarjun Kharge said the prime minister failed to stop the insult of Indians deported from the USA.

Kharge during his address stated, "Despite Modi ji's visit, America is sending back Indian citizens handcuffed as before. Vegetarians were given non-vegetarian food. Our government also failed to protest this insult properly."

He further spoke about the reverse tariff announcement that Trump made right before his meeting with PM Modi which will be affecting India's economy in the near future.

Kharge said, "America is also hurting us deeply in economic matters. They imposed reverse tariff on us, but the prime minister did not even protest against it. They are forcibly imposing a loss-making deal on us, which our government is silently accepting."

The Congress chief claimed, "This is clearly an insult to India and the people of India."

Despite US being India's largest trading partner during 2021-24, Trump recently said that "India is a very hard place to do business because of tariffs".

The impact of Trump’s reciprocal tariffs on India will depend on the US’ adjustments to duties and India’s response. The tariff hike may lead to a retaliatory tariff strategy from India's side in the near future.slotbet
